MAF Sets Up Field ICU for Critical Covid-19 Patients in Pulau Pinang

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 May 2021 - The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) through the Health Services Division (BPK) will set up a 'Field ICU' at Kepala Batas Hospital, Penang to help the Ministry of Health (MOH) accommodate the sharp increase in critical cases in Penang.

In preparation for launching the ‘Field ICU’ construction process, the BPK, MAF Headquarters also held a ‘Dry Run Field ICU’ which will be set up for the MOH delegation at the Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital (HAT Mizan) this morning.
BPK, MAF Headquarters Medical Director Major General Dato' (Dr) Mohammad Amirrudin bin Hamdan in his statement said that the 'Field ICU' that will be set up uses a modular concept and is capable of treating up to 27 critical COVID-19 patients who need respiratory assistance and life support equipment. Others such as dialysis machines will also be available for patients with renal failure as a result of COVID-19 infection as well as infusion pumps to support heart function.
Apart from that, the MAF will also set up a modular laboratory and a modular radiology unit to provide clinical support services to critical patients housed in the ‘Field ICU’.

 The MAF will continue to be committed and work with all parties, especially the MOH to address the COVID-19 pandemic that is plaguing the country today and help the MOH provide the best treatment to COVID-19 critical patients in Malaysia.
